Ontario Young People Killed in Car Crash
Clinton, Ont. — Two area young people were killed and two others injured in a one-car accident on Labor day.
Dead are Brian (Butch) Zehr, 18, of New Hamburg and Linda Catherine Hohner, 18, of Tavistock. Injured were Benda Hohner of Tavistock and Donald Schumm of New Hamburg.
Provincial police reported that the car left a Tuckersmith Township road as it rounded a curve near here, crashing into a steel culvert.
Young Zehr was well known as a musician and athlete in the New Hamburg area, and three weeks earlier was credited with saving an eight-year-old boy from drowning during a boat show. He was a student at Waterloo-Oxford Secondary School and a member of the Hillcrest Mennonite Church. Surviving in addition to his parents, Walter and Helen (Ramseyer) Zehr, are two sisters, a brother, and grandparents.
Memorial services were held Sept. 7 at the Hillcrest Church in charge of Rev. Henry Yantzi.
