John Pauls was born to Jacob and Anna Pauls Aug. 13, 1920 in southern Russia. The family fled to Germany in 1929 and immigrated to Manitou, Man. in 1930. John was baptized upon his confession of faith in Jesus in September 1941. He served in camps in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Ontario as a conscientious objector during World War II. He married Verna Pauls July 10, 1949. They farmed in Purves, Man., retiring to Manitou in 1996. John was involved with Boys Brigade in Manitou MB Church, and built things for Winkler, Pembina Valley and Simon house Bible camps. He was known for his willingness to lend help to friend and neighbour without thought of payment in return.
