MRS. SUSIE BARTEL
(Mrs.) Susie Bartel of Sardis, B.C. went to be with her Lord on November 20, 1978. She was born to Frank and Anna Friesen on June 15, 1913 in Schowrow, southern Russia. The family moved later to Grigorewka, where her mother died in 1920 and her father in 1923. The children moved to Klippenfeld to stay with her aunt Aganeta and uncle Otto Benke. In November 1926 they left for Canada via Mexico, arriving in Winnipeg in 1927. They lived in Graysville and then in Holland, Man. She moved to Vancouver and worked there 1932-34. On July 1, 1934 she married John Bartel in the Sardis Mennonite Brethren Church. She had accepted the Lord as her Saviour in her youth, and in 1934 she was accepted into the Sardis church.
The family remembers her as a faithful and loving wife and mother, and is comforted by her victorious faith. She is survived by her husband John; two sons, David and Hilda, and Ed at home; two daughters, Hilda and John Komelson and Lillian and Larry Robertson; five grandchildren; two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Agnes Bergen and Mrs. Katie Friesen, and Jake Friesen; and two half-brothers, Ben and Dick Friesen.
