MRS. KATIE ENTZ
Katie Regier Entz, daughter of Rev. Bernhard and Louise (Busenitz) Regier, was born May 10, 1890 near Newton, Kansas, and departed this life on Nov. 30, 1964, reaching the age of 74 years, six months, and 21 days.
Her happy childhood was spent in her parental home on the farm, together with three brothers. She attended school in District 9 and the academy at Bethel College. She filled a very important place in the family circle, and her cheerful, energetic nature was a great asset to the home.
On May 19, 1907 she was baptized by Elder Jacob Toews upon her confession of faith in Christ, and received as a member into the First Mennonite Church of Newton, and remained a faithful member until her death.
On May 11, 1911 she was joined in marriage to Gustav Entz. They established their home on Kansas Avenue, one and one-half miles south of Newton, where together many happy years were spent. This union was blessed with seven children. One son died in infancy.
During their married life joy and sorrow intermingled, but God's loving hand preserved and sustained in all circumstances, and they were permitted to celebrate their silver wedding anniversary on May 11, 1936 with their children, relatives and friends. To these 25 years, 15 more years were added by the Lord's goodness before the marriage was severed by the death of our father.
To the departed it was a great joy to be a grandmother, and she took a vital interest in each of her grandchildren. They in turn will not soon forget her love, cheery greetings, and bountiful provision for them, prepared by her loving and busy hands.
She bore the affliction of old age patiently and had the rare gift of contentment.
On Nov.19, 1964, she suffered a stroke, from which she showed partial improvment, but ultimately this terminated her life
She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Mrs. Walter (Frieda) Harder of Peabody, Mrs. Howard (Louise) Wedel of Peabody, Mrs. Jake (Helen) Kaufman, of Newton, and three sons, Bernhard, Gus H., and Arnold J., all of rural Newton; two daughters-in-law, three sons-in-law; 10 grandchildren; one brother, B. E. Regier of rural Newton: and many relatives and friends.
