DIETRICH JACOB BERGMAN

The son of Jacob and Anna (nee Klassen) Bergman, Dietrich Jacob Bergman was born December 6, 1880, in Russia. When he was two years old his mother died and he and his brother were raised by the Abe Friesens. At 21 he was baptized and became a member of the Mennonite Brethren Church.

In 1902 he married Sara Peters, and the Bergmans were blessed with eight children. However, three died in childhood. After teaching school for 21 years, the Bergmans moved to Canada in 1925 and farmed in Alberta and Manitoba. They moved to Leamington, Ont., after 10 years to start a business. His wife died in 1957. A year later, he married Susana Kroeker, a widow, who remained a faithful companion until her death in 1968.

Mr. Bergman passed away on October 2. He leaves to mourn three sons and their wives, Abe and Margaret, Edward and Lena, and Ted and Rita, all of Leamington; a daughter Adina (Mrs. Jacob) Toews of Leamington and a daughter Olga of Harrow; two stepchildren, Margaret Willms and Frank Kroeker; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one ·brother Paul and two sisters, Anna and Margaret of B.C.; and many friends.
