Mr. Gardner died Sept. 25 at an Orrville hospital after a brief illness. A native of Holmes County he taught school as a young man and later built a store and creamery in Kidron. He established the Kidron News, local weekly paper, in 1937 as a community news sheet and shoppers' guide. In 1941 he opened his own print shop on the second floor of the E. P. Gerber warehouse. In 1957 he sold the paper to Mr. and Mrs. Carl Norr of Berne, Ind. Since then he had operated a small print shop in the home near the Salem Church. | |||
Survivors include two sons and seven daughters and their families. | |||

Founder of Ohio Weekly Dies At Age 87
Kidron, Ohio. — Funeral services for Harvey Gardner, 87, founder of the "Kidron News," were held Sept. 28 at the Salem Mennonite Church here. Rev. Ben Rahn, the pastor, officiated.
Mr. Gardner died Sept. 25 at an Orrville hospital after a brief illness. A native of Holmes County he taught school as a young man and later built a store and creamery in Kidron.
