MRS. MARIE HAURY

Death removed the last charter member of the Upland, Calif. First Mennonite Church when Mrs. Marie Haury was called home to her eternal reward. She was born in Germany August 28, 1872 and died June 29, 1962, attaining the age of 89 years and 10 months.

In 1897 she was married to Edward H. Haury, and in 1947 they were privileged to commemorate their 50th wedding anniversary. A year later her husband passed away.

They came to Upland in time to become charter members of the First Church in 1903. That same year she helped to organize the Women's Missionary Society and also the Wanderers Welcome Sunday school class. She was faithful in attending all church activities so long as health permitted. Hers was a sunny and happy disposition, interspersed with humor and wit. She always contributed much cheerfulness and merriment to our sewing society.

About a year ago she developed a heart condition which forced her into complete retirement. However, she still attended worship services whenever she was able, and friends furnished transportation. A few days before her passing she felt ill and her son Paul was summoned to her bedside. On June 29 a sudden heart seizure proved fatal.

Survivors are her adopted son, Paul Haury; a sister, Anna Bergman; a brother, William Bergman of Upland; and one grandchild.

Memorial services were conducted in our church sanctuary with Rev. J. N. Smucker officiating. Interment followed in the Bellevue cemetery. The profusion of flowers gave evidence of the high esteem in which the departed was held.
