• Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Grace Hill Church for Mrs. Mary Unruh, 84, who died Sept. 12 at the Country View Rest Home. Rev. H. E. Miller, the pastor, officiated. Mrs. Miller [''sic'' Unruh] was born at Whitewater and lived in this area all her life. Her husband, J. S. Unruh, preceded her in death. Her large family of descendants includes seven sons, six daughters, 21 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Mrs. J. J. Harms of Whitewater. | |||

Mrs. Mary Unruh, daughter of Heinrich and Eva Funk Ewert, was born in Newton, Kan. on Sept. 15, 1877, and departed this life at the Country View Nursing Home near Newton on Sept. 12, 1962, at the age of 84 years, 11 months, and 27 days. She was looking forward to her 85th birthday on Saturday. | |||
At a very young age she lost her mother in death. This proved to be a trying time for her and her three sisters. | |||
She was baptized on May 25, 1896 and became a member of the Grace Hill Mennonite Church, of which she remained a faithful member. | |||
On Jan. 17, 1897, she was united in marriage with John S. Unruh. Together they shared a happy life for 44 years. After her husband's death she made her home with her son Arthur and wife Elva, for 16 years. She was a resident of the Country View Nursing Home for two and a half months just before her death. | |||
Preceding her in death were her husband and one son, Robert, who died in infancy. Survivors include seven sons, Martin of Clinton, Okla., Frank of Scott City, Kan., John, Theodore, and Arthur of Newton, Howard of Parsons, Kan., and William of Wichita; six daughters, Mrs. Carl (Linda) Unruh of Bellflower, Calif., Mary Unruh of Los Angeles, Mrs. Menno (Rose) Nickel of Whitewater, Mrs. Carl (Grace) Nickel of Newton, Mrs. Ray (Alvinia) Gilmore of Cherrydale [''sic'' Cherryvale], and Lucille Unruh of Winfield; one sister, Mrs. J. J. Harms of Whitewater; and two half-brothers, Gus and Henry Ewert. Her 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren were a great source of pride and enjoyment to her. | |||
