LIFELONG RESIDENT DIED AT AGE 75

Kidron, Ohio. — Funeral services for Daniel B. Amstutz, 75, a lifelong resident of this community, were held Aug. 11 at the Kidron Mennonite church. A retired farmer, he died at the home in Kidron on Aug. 8.

Survivors include his wife, Fannie; seven daughters and three sons, all living in this vicinity; one brother and three sisters; 23 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

DANIEL B. AMSTUTZ

Daniel Benjamin Amstutz was born to Benjamin and Verena (Steiner) Amstutz on October 3, 1877, and died at the family home in Kidron, Ohio on August 8, 1953, following an illness of almost three years. His age was 75 years, 10 months, five days;

He grew to manhood on the farm south of Dalton where he was born, and resided in that vicinity nearly all his life. His occupation was farming, but he assisted in the carpenter trade also.

His faith in Christ was made manifest when he was baptized on March 23, 1894, and became a member of the Mennonite church. For more than forty years he faithfully taught a Sunday School class, and diligently took part in many other activities of the church, continuing in this service as long as his health permitted him to do so.

On July 10, 1898, he was married to Ella Mae Amstutz, which union was terminated by her death three months later.

On November 19, 1903, he was married to Fannie Elizabeth Zaugg, and had he lived until this coming November 19, they would have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Surviving him is his devoted companion, who faithfully cared for him during his long illness, an illness which our brother so patiently bore.

The following children also survive him: Clayton S. Amstutz of Canton; C. V. Amstutz of Dalton; Anne (Mrs. L. E. Sommer) of Kidron; Pauline (Mrs. Seth Miller) of Alliance; Leona (Mrs. Ralph Hostetler) of Smithville, R. D.; Ella (Mrs. Milton Rohrer) of Orrville, R. D.; Emma (Mrs. Ralph Gonter) of Kidron; Arlene (Mrs. Glenn Schrock) of Smithville, R. D.; Duane B. Amstutz of Dalton, R. D. and Mary Jeanne (Mrs. Russell Graber) of Creston, R. D. One daughter, Lavera, died in infancy.

Surviving him also are one aunt, Mrs. Sarah Lehman, 23 grandchildren and one great grandson; one brother, Amos B. Amstutz of Dalton, R. D. and three sisters, Mrs. David D. Hofstetter, Mrs. Philip Gerber and Mrs. Reuben Hofstetter all of Dalton, R. D.

One of his favorite Bible passages, quoted by him on numerous occasions, is the following from Job 19:25, “For I know that my Redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth.”
