— Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Inman Mennonite Church for Daniel P. Wiens, 63, long-time Inman resident who died Oct. 5 in a Hutchinson hospital. Rev. Ben Rahn, the pastor, officiated. Mr. Wiens was a member of the board of the Inman Home for Aged. Paul J. Wiens of Newton is one of three surviving children. | |||

Daniel P. Wiens, son of Peter J. and Agatha (Ensz) Wiens, was born Oct. 26, 1897, in McPherson County near Inman, Kan. His youth was spent helping his parents on the farm. | |||
As a young man he realized his sinful condition and accepted Christ as his personal Saviour. Upon his confession of faith he was baptized by Rev. Abraham Ratzlaff on June 11, 1916, and received into the Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church. On May 6, 1921, he and his wife became charter members of the Inman Mennonite Church. | |||
On Oct. 26, 1919, he was united in holy matrimony to Katie Holdebrecht by Rev. A. J. Dyck. their home was established on a farm northeast of Inman where they lived and worked together for almost 42 years. This union was blessed with one daughter and two sons. On Oct. 26, 1944, they had the privilege to celebrate their silver wedding anniversary. | |||
Dad's dedicated life led him to an active service in the work of the church. He served as Sunday school superintendent, board member, trustee, as a deacon for 15 years, and also a Sunday school teacher for many years. He was deeply devoted to the cause of missions and relief. | |||
In the betterment of the community he served many years on various committees. In the latter years he took extra interest in the Inman Home for the Aged, serving as a member of the board until his death. | |||
His ambition to see completion of the new home for aged was not achieved because of an arthritic hip. He submitted to surgery on Aug. 29 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Hutchinson during which a hip-thigh fusion was performed. After five weeks of patiently enduring a body cast, on Sept. 29 he contracted pneumonia. On Oct. 5 the Lord called his child to be at Home with Him in heaven. He attained the age of 63 years, 11 months and nine days. | |||
Preceding him in death were one sister, Margaret, and his parents. | |||
Those who mourn his sudden departure are his life's companion, Katie; one daughter Florence and her huband Leonard E. Wiens of Rural Newton; two sons , Walter and wife Kathryn of Rural Inman, and Paul and wife Darlene of Newton, one brother, Jake E. Wiens of Meade; one sister Agatha, Mrs. K. L. Wiens of Meade; and nine grandchildren whom he dearly loved. — the Family. | |||
