He passed away April1, 1961, at the Bethel Deaconess Hospital in Newton, Kan. at the age of 90 years, five months, and 25 days. His death was due to a failing heart, and intensified by an emergency operation.

In January, 1897, he was united in marriage to Celia Gingerich, who passed away in 1936. To this union were born four children, Alma and Malinda, and a daughter and son who died in infancy.
