— Jacob G. Newfeldt [sic Neufeldt], 84, a resident of the Sunshine Mission Home in Buhler, died there early Sunday morning. Funeral services were to be held Wednesday afternoon at the Hebron Mennonite Church, with Rev. O'Ray Graber officiating. Surviving are the widow, Katy, a resident of the Sunshine Home, two daughters, three sons, one brother and four sisters.

JACOB G. NEUFELDT

Jacob G. Neufeldt, son of Gerhard and Margaretha Balzer Neufeldt, was born on March 3, 1876 in Gnadental, South Russia.

Two years later, in 1878 he came to the United States with his parents. The experiences of the trip and the landing at New York were often related in the family circle, until they became so real to him that they lived in his memory as his own experiences. His parents settled in Turkey Creek Township of McPherson County, Kan., where he spent practically all his life.

He received his elementary education at the Sparta School. Later he attended the preparatory school at Bethel College for one term.

As a young man, he accepted the Lord as his personal Saviour, and upon his confession of faith was baptized on Dec. 12, 1897 by Rev. Bernhard Buhler and was received into the membership of the Hebron Mennonite Church.

On Dec. 16, 1903 Jacob G. Neufeldt and Katy K. Balzer were united in marriage by Rev. Bernhard Buhler. to this union were born four daughters and three sons.

He participated in many church and community activities. He was active on the school board and the township board for many years. He was often a Sunday School teacher and was very much interested in and gave guidance to the Jugend Verein program of the church.

In 1932 his right leg was injured in an accident with a horse mower. Especially in his later years, this injury caused him trouble because of inadequate circulation. Other complications, including a diabetic condition, finally made it necessary in 1958 to amputate the leg.

In 1941 Mr. and Mrs. Neufeldt moved to a smaller house on the home place. On Dec. 1, 1960 they moved into the Sunshine Home at Buhler. And here on Sunday morning, Feb. 26, 1961 at 1 a. m., he died at the age of 84 years, 11 months and 23 days.

Those who mourn his departure are his wife, Katy; three sons, Carl J. and wife Esther of Mt. Vernon, N. Y., Jacob B. and wife Elma, and Arthur D. and wife Margaret, both of Inman; two daughters, Tena M. and husband Ed Balzer of Buhler, and Anna Esther of Baltimore, Md.; ten grandchildren; one brother, D. B. Neufeldt of Buhler; four sisters, Mrs. H. H. Schroeder of Buhler, Mrs. D. H. Schroeder of Inman, Mrs. John A. Balzer of Buhler, and Mrs. J. W. Wall of Ingalls, Kan., and many relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Sarah N. and Esther Margaret, both of whom died in infancy; one daughter-in-law, Nettie M. Neufeldt; one grandchild, Bruce Neufeldt; and three half-brothers, George S., Peter S. and David S. Neufeldt.

Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, March 1, at the Hebron Mennonite Church, with Rev.O'Ray C. Graber and Rev. J. K. Siemens officiating. He was laid to rest in the Buhler Cemetery. — The Family.
