GUY O. GRABER
Guy O. Graber, eldest son of Amos and Lydia Short Graber, was born Oct. 18, 1893, on the home farm north of Stryker, Ohio, and died in his home in Stryker, Dec. 24, 1960, having attained the age of 67 years, two months, and six days. Death was attributed to coronary occlusion.
His entire life was lived in and near Stryker where he farmed with his father and brothers and in later years with his son, Elwood. God permitted him to work hard and serve vigorously all his days.
He became ill suddenly on Christmas eve, but his illness was not considered serious, so when he went to sleep on the living room couch no one realized that this would become his eternal rest. We are grateful for his well-lived life and his Christian faith and testimony.
He was united in marriage with Ida Liechty of Wauseon, Ohio, on Sept. 20, 1922. To them were born two children, Elwood, who lives on the home farm north of Styker [sic Stryker] which he and his father have worked together with joy and satisfaction, and Donna Belle, Mrs. Eugene Diller, of Hesston, Kansas. The same love, loyalty, and affection which he gave to his wife and children was enjoyed by his seven grandchildren and will always be cherished in grateful memory.
Early in youth father accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and this commitment became the guiding principle in every phase of his life. Although he loved his family dearly and the farm with all its toil gave him satisfaction, nevertheless, the ”kingdom of God and its righteousness” clearly came first in his life. The church at Lockport gave him cherished fellowship with those who also loved the Lord. He enjoyed giving service to the congregation and working on various committees. Possibly his crowning Christian service experience was the help he and mother gave beginning in 1953 in establishing the Salem congregation near Wayworn, Mich. as a mission outreach of the Lockport congregation. They were among the charter members at Salem.
Father enjoyed a loyal and blessed family relationship. His father and mother preceded him in death. He is survived by three brothers and two sisters, Clarence and Charles of Stryker, George of Monticello, Kentucky, Anna, Mrs. Ernest Reichenberg of Hillsdale, Mich., and Catharine, Mrs. Harry Lamberson of Montpelier, Ohio, and a number of aunts and one uncle.
Funeral services were held Dec. 28 at 10:30 at the Lockport Mennonite church. Officiating were Earl Stuckey, Walter Stuckey, D. Wyse Graber and Freeman Aschliman. Interment was made in the Lockport cemetery. — The Family.
