Jacob Benjamin Wedel, 81, died Aug. 9 at his home in Fairview, Okla. after a lingering illness.  Services were held on Aug. 11 at the First Baptist Church of Fairview.  The Rev. Leon O. Henry, pastor of the Fairview Baptist Church, officiated, with burial in the Fairview cemetery.     
 
Mr. Wedel was born in McPherson county, Kansas, Dec. 7, 1878.  After graduating from Salina Normal university, Salina Kan., he worked as bookkeeper-manager in Meno, Okla. for four years before coming to Fairview on Sept. 16, 1909, to enter the meat and grocery business.  He was in this business for 38 years, retiring in 1947.  His sons Benton and Mervin still operate this business.   
 
He was a member of the Mennonite Church. 
 
Survivors include his wife Adena, of the home; one daughter, Beulah, Mrs. Ruben [''sic'' Reuben] Frantz, Wichita, Kan.; four sons, Leonard, Nashville, Tenn., Gerald, Wellington, Kan., and Benton and Mervin, Fairview; three sisters, Elske [Elizabeth], Mrs. Ben Boehs, Fairview, Eva, Mrs. Randall Pekrul, Goltry, and Caroline, Mrs. John Nightingale, Ringwood; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

JACOB BENJAMIN WEDEL
