MRS. ELVINA ESAU
Elvina Augsburger Esau was born on Dec. 7, 1899, at Bluffton, Ohio. She was one of 12 children of the Elias Augsburger family. At the age of 14 she felt her need of a Saviour and made her decision to become a Christian and follow Jesus Christ. She was baptized upon the confession of her faith by the late W. S. Gotsholl, her pastor, and became a member of the Ebenezer Mennonite church in Bluffton, Ohio, where she was a faithful church worker.
Having prayed for the Lord’s leading, she enrolled as a student at the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. Here she gained a practical knowledge of the Bible and for two years went 15 miles by Streetcar each Sunday to teach her Sunday school class.
She united in marriage with John Esau on June 24, 1926, and had a happy married life for more than 34 years.
One son, John Allen, was born on Feb. 1, 1937. He was consecrated to the Lord for Christian life and service. At present he is attending the Mennonite Biblical Seminary.
Mother had almost a life-long problem with her health, yet she proved a very diligent and faithful helper in our work, giving herself untiringly to prayer and reading for me, her husband.
In the spring of this year she became more frail and weak, so I was obliged to remain at home at her side. She became more seriously ill three weeks ago. On Sept. 7, it was necessary for her to enter the hospital.
On Sept. 11 she left this earthly scene to be present with her Lord. She reached the age of 60 years, nine months, and four days. She leaves to mourn, her husband, John; one son, John Allen; and a daughter-in-law, Bernice; her step-mother, two sisters, five brothers, and many other relatives and friends.
She took great delight in the Word of God, the unsearchable riches of Christ, and also in nature, especially her flowers. She had a great ministry of writing letters and giving out tracts and poems. With her it is absent from the body and present with the Lord which is far better.
Funeral services were held Sept. 14 at the Gospel Mennonite church, Mt. Lake, Minn., with Rev. Albert Gaeddert and Dr. Harold Burkholder officiating. — Her Husband.
