GEORGE NEUFELD

George Neufeld, son of Gerhard and Elisabeth (nee Loewen) Neufeld, was born on May 9, 1910 in Olgafeld, South Russia. In 1926 he immigrated with his parents, two sisters and one brother to Canada, where they lived in Drake, Sask. for 15 years. His brother Peter had to stay in Russia.

On January 6, 1935 he married Mary Penner, daughter of the late Rev. John and Mrs. Helen Penner. The first six years on the farm in Drake were difficult because of the depression. In 1941 they moved to Virgil, Onto A year later they purchased a house in Niagara-on-the-Lake, his home until his death. Three children were born to them. Their greatest desire and prayer, which God graciously granted, was for the children to know and serve the Lord.

George accepted the Lord as his personal Saviour in March, 1935. He was baptized Philadelphia Mennonite Brethren Church of Watrous, Sask. Since 1941 he was a faithful member of the Virgil MB Church. He especially enjoyed working in the building program and the fellowship in his Sunday school class.

The Neufelds were privileged to celebrate their silver wedding in 1960. This year was their fortieth anniversary, which was celebrated with the family.
