Early-Day Settler at Fairview, Okla. Dies
Fairview, Okla. — Funeral services were held at the Fairview Mennonite Brethren church for Henry I. Martens, 71, one of the early settlers in this community and a long-time farmer here. He died at an Enid hospital after being seriously ill for three weeks.
Mr. Martens was a native of Marion county, Kansas, moving to a farm southwest of Fairview to 1894. He continued to live on the same farm until his death.
Surviving in the immediate family are his wife, Elizabeth; five daughters, Catherine [Katharina] Fast of Westmont, N. J., Josephine Thiessen of Fresno, Calif., Rubena [sic Rubiene “Rubina”] Sholtess of Bethany, Okla., Justine Martin of Fairview, and Henrietti Colbert [sic Henrietta Calvert] of Enid; five sons, isaac of Anthony, Kan., Jake of Norwalk, Calif., Abe of Oakland, Calif., Don of Enid, Henry, Jr. of Drummond; and 21 grandchildren.
