MRS. CHRISTIAN BAEHR

Mrs. Helen (Mueller) Baehr, daughter of Heinrich and Katharine (Weber) Mueller, was born in Bavaria, Germany on June 15, 1881. Here she received her elementary schooling and was baptized upon the confession of her faith by Rev. Landes on March 22, 1896, in Rottmanshardt, Germany.

At the age of 21, with her parents, sisters and brothers, she came to this country and located on a farm northwest of Halstead, Kansas, becoming a member of the First Mennonite Church of Halstead.

After some years on the farm she went to the Evangelical Deaconess hospital at St. Louis, Missouri for nurses' training and service. After three years there she was called to the Mennonite Deaconess Hospital in Beatrice, Neb.

On Feb. 23, 1916, she was united in marriage to Christian Baehr of Wisner, Neb. and transferred her membership from the First Mennonite Church of Halstead to the Wisner Mennonite Church. To this marriage one son, Marvin, was born.

In 1921 the family moved to a farm west of Newton, Kansas and became members of the First Mennonite Church of Newton. In February of 1943 her husband passed away after a short illness.

In 1946 Mrs. Baehr moved back to Halstead and shortly afterwards transferred her membership back to the First Mennonite Church of Halstead, where she remained a faithful member until the time of her death.

She passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly in her home in Halstead on May 26, 1959. The exact time of her heath is unknown as there was no one with her at the time. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, five brothers, and one sister. She leaves to mourn her departure: one son, Marvin and wife Betty of Newton; two grandsons, Ralph and Randall; one brother, Peter Mueller, of Newton; and two sisters, Katherina and Caroline Mueller of Halstead.
