— Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Miller Funeral Home in Goessel and the Alexanderwohl church for Mrs. Lydia Unruh, 65, widow of Rudolph Unruh, who died June 10 at the Bethesda Hospital in Goessel. Rev. P. A. Wedel officiated. Mrs. Unruh, the former Lydia Schroeder, was a lifelong resident of the Goessel community. She leaves one daughter, two sons, three brothers, seven sisters and 10 grandchildren.

MRS. RUDOLPH UNRUH

Mrs. Rudolph Unruh, nee Lydia Schroeder, daughter of Henry J. and Eva Pankratz Schroeder, was born Dec. 11, 1893, in the Springfield Community, Marion County, Kan. She departed this life at the Bethesda hospital on June 10, 1959, at 12:20 p.m., attaining the age of 65 years, five months, and 29 days.

She received her elementary education in the Springfield Rural School, after which she attended the Hillsboro Preparatory School.

On May 26, 1912, she was baptized upon confession of faith in her Redeemer by Elder Heinrich Banman and became a member of the Alexanderwohl Church, whose faithful member she remained until her death.

She was united in marriage to Rudolph Unruh on May 12, 1917, by Rev. C. C. Wedel. She joined her husband as homemaker and helpmeet on the farm southeast of Goessel. There the three children were born. In 1929 the family moved to Goessel

Mother and father celebrated their silver wedding anniversary in church in 1942, and on May 12, 1957, they observed their 40th anniversary with the family.

Our parents shared companionship for nearly 41 years, until father was taken in death Feb. 16, 1958, leaving mother very lonely. After last Christmas it became quite apparent that her health was rapidly failing. The doctors later diagnosed her illness as cancer. Mother suffered much both mentally and physically the last few months of her life, but with the help of her ministers and God she bore it patiently. We are grateful to apply the promises of the Scriptures also to her as recorded in Romans 8:18, ”For I reckon that the sufferings of this time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that shall be revealed in us.”

Our memories of mother will always be as strong and positive as she herself was — her unselfish concern for her family, helping Dad whenever she could, her active participation in YWCA, the Hospital Auxiliary, and the Alexanderwohl Sewing Society, her struggle to overcome the hardships of diminished eyesight, her singing as she carried on her daily tasks, and the many other things that made her ”Mom”.

She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter and her husband, Audrey and Alvin Boese, Lehigh, Kan.; two sons and their wives, Orville and Elsie Unruh of Newton, Kan., Lowell and Betty Unruh of Hillsboro, Kan.; ten grandchildren; three brothers, Peter B. and Herman P. Schroeder of Newton and John P. Schroeder of Goessel; seven sisters, Mrs. Marie Richert of Newton, Mrs. H. B. (Elizabeth) Unrau of Goessel, Mrs. Karl (Helen) Schmidt of Hillsboro, Mrs. Anna Regier of Newton, Mrs. Charles (Henrietta) Voth of Garden City, Mrs. P. A. (Agatha) Voth of Canton, and Mrs. Ted (Martha) Dirksen of Moundridge, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held in the Miller Funeral Home and the Alexanderwohl Church on Sunday afternoon, June 14, in charge of Rev. P. A. Wedel, assisted by Rev. H. B. Schmidt of Moundridge.
