MARTIN HAMM

Martin Hamm, late of 2799 Victoria Street, Clearbrook, B.C., was born on April 1, 1898 in Blumstein, South Russia to Martin and Maria (nee Peters) Hamm. When he was 15, they moved to Rueckenau, South Russia, where he accepted Christ as his Saviour in his twentieth year. He was baptized and became a member in the Rueckenau Mennonite Brethren Church. On June 3, 1919, he married Maria Janzen, and in 1924 they came to Canada, living for a time in Altona, Man.

In 1926 they moved to a farm of their own at Elie, Man., where they shared their joys and sorrows for over 44 years until January, 1964, when she predeceased him. During this time he was a member of the MB church at Newton Siding.

On May, 1968, he married Lena Tielmann. He became a good friend, father and grandfather to her family of one daughter, and three sons and their families. That year, they moved to Clearbrook, B.C. where he became a member of the Clearbrook Mennonite Brethren Church. He passed away on November 2.

He is survived by his wife, Lena; six sons and their wives: Martin, Vic, and Dave of Winnipeg, Jake of Oakville, Man., Henry of Kamloops, B.C., Cornie of Abbotsford, B.C. and John at home; four daughters: Mrs. P. (Lydia) Kroeker of Elm Creek, Man., Mrs. A (Mary) Wiebe of Domain, Man., Mrs. W. (Martha) Kroeker of Vauxhall, Alta., and Annie at home; 38 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one stepdaughter, Lena Tielmann of Clearbrook, B.C.; three stepsons and their families: Jake and Martha Tielmann of Winnipeg, Peter and Elsa Tielmann of Clearbrook, B.C.; and Walter and Netha Tielman of Russia; three brothers; two sisters; and many friends and relatives. He is now at home with the Lord.
