— Funeral services were held at the Hebron church near Buhler last Saturday for Miss Sarah D. Franz, 61, who had died suddenly of a heart attack on Tuesday, July 1. Rev. O'Ray Graber was in charge of the services. Miss Franz was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Heinrich Franz and had lived at Buhler all her life.

SARAH FRANZ

Miss Sarah Franz, daughter of Heinrich and Helena Penner Franz, was born April 6, 1897 in Harvey County, Kansas. She was born and raised on the farm of her parents approximately six miles east of Buhler, Kansas. her educational opportunities were limited, but she did have the privilege of attending the Alta school for several years.

With her parents she attended the Hebron Mennonite church from childhood on and here she learned to know Christ whom she accepted as her personal Saviour and Lord. She was baptized on September 28, 1913 upon her personal confession by Elder A. M. Martens, and became a member of the Hebron church, where she remained a faithful member until her departure from this life.

Ill health in later years prevented her from attending church services and church activities. Yet her love for the church remained constant and shortly before her unexpected passing she had expressed her desire to get well enough to return home and attend services again.

She loved music and her life was especially enriched through her appreciation of hymns and sacred songs. A few hours before her death he had been playing the piano and singing the song, "Since Jesus Came Into My Heart."

Housekeeping had always been a joy and pleasure for her. This was expressed in the neat and precise way her home was arranged and kept even though her health was poor and she was often in pain. She had been afflicted by rheumatism since grade school days and in school it interfered with her writing on the blackboard. She was finally confined to a wheel chair about four years ago.

For several years she received kind and loving care from Helen Janzen, who assisted Sarah in her home. In June 1957 it became necessary to seek more professional care and she was taken to Broad Acres near Hutchinson, Kansas, where she found considerable help and her condition was improved in many ways.

It was here that she very suddenly and quietly passed to be with her Master, who had been the strength of her life. She had said that the day of her baptism was the happiest day of her life. Prayer and daily communion with God remained a strengthening influence for her continually.

At the time of her death, July 1, 1958 at 3:40 p. m., she had reached the age of 61 years, two months, and 25 days.

Her parents and one sister, Bertha, who died in infancy, preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her departure, four sisters and five brothers: Mary, Mrs. George Ediger, Buhler, Lena, Mrs. J. M. Dick, Buhler, Edna Dick of Larned, Frieda, Mrs. John R. Dick, Buhler, Herman C. Franz, Halstead, Henry A. Franz, Liberal, Peter M. Franz of Turpin, Okla., Jake P. Franz, Buhler, and Dave A. Franz, also of Buhler, beside a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, July 5, 1958 at the Hebron Mennonite Church with Rev. O'Ray C. Graber and Rev. Irwin Richert officiating. She was laid to rest in the Buhler cemetery, Buhler, Kansas.
