Kitchener, Ont. &#8212; A tragic accident befell the family of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Martin of Route 2, Drayton, when their son Edward, age 19, was killed by a freight train at a crossing in Elmira, Ontario, on Saturday evening, Feb. 8.

Traveling alone, he approached the railway crossing at about 3:30 p.m. during a snow storm and it is believed that he saw the train too late. He apparently had applied his brakes but slid into the oncoming train.

The automobile was completely wrecked and was knocked about 25 feet into a ditch against a telephone pole. The youth was thrown clear and landed about 53 feet from the point of contact. He died at the hospital 35 minutes after arrival.

He was a member of the North Woolwich Mennonite Meeting House near Elmira. Rev. Amsey Martin, pastor of the church, officiated at his funeral.

Ontario Youth Killed In Crossing Accident

CAR SKIDS INTO PATH OF FREIGHT TRAIN DURING SNOW STORM

Kitchener, Ont. — A tragic accident befell the family of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Martin of Route 2, Drayton, when their son Edward, age 19, was killed by a freight train at a crossing in Elmira, Ontario, on Saturday evening, Feb. 8.

Traveling alone, he approached the railway crossing at about 3:30 p.m. during a snow storm and it is believed that he saw the train too late. He apparently had applied his brakes but slid into the oncoming train.

The automobile was completely wrecked and was knocked about 25 feet into a ditch against a telephone pole. The youth was thrown clear and landed about 53 feet from the point of contact. He died at the hospital 35 minutes after arrival.

He was a member of the North Woolwich Mennonite Meeting House near Elmira. Rev. Amsey Martin, pastor of the church, officiated at his funeral.
