He spent one year at Bethany Bible Institute, Hepburn, Sask., after high school and then went to Abbotsford, B.C. to earn money for further training. The Lord took him home on July 8, 1973 when he drowned in Cultus Lake, B.C. He was 19 years old.

Funeral services were held on July 13 in the Waldheim MB Church with Rev. John Geortzen and Rev. Rudy Heidebrecht officiating. Gordon leaves to mourn his parents, 1 sister, Linda; 2 brothers, Paul and Kenneth; his grandparents, Mr. Peter Schellenberg and Mr. and Mrs. John Redekopp; and many relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his grandmother, Mrs. Peter Schellenberg.
