text of obituary:

REV. JACOB BERGEN

Jacob Bergen, son of Isaac and Agatha Bergen, was born in 1893 at Ekaterinoslav, Ukraine. Here he grew up and received Christ as his Saviour. He was baptized and became a member of the M.B. Church of Einlage. In 1819 he married Katharina Dyck, and the Lord blessed them with 8 daughters and 2 sons.

They emigrated to Saskatoon in 1926. The fellowship of the church meant a great deal to Jacob, and he was elected as a deacon in the M.B. Church of Gilroy. Later he was ordained to the ministry in the M.B. Church at Glenbush, and some years after this he served as minister in the Mullingar M.B. Church. In 1944 the family moved to Chilliwack, B.C. where he served as the minister of the Broadway M.B. Church for 12 years.

His health began to fail in 1971, and his desire to be with the Lord was fulfilled on June 8. He reached the age of 79 years and left behind the rich blessings of a godly life and dedicated ministry.

Besides his wife Katharina, all 10 children are still living and were able to attend the funeral on June 13 in the Broadway M.B. Church with Rev. George Thielman and Rev. Bernhard Epp officiating. His children are: Tina, Frank, Agatha, Jacob, Marion, Agnes, Helen, Margaret, Martha, and Elsie.
