PETER S. MARTENS

Peter S. Martens was born in Schanzenfeld, Manitoba on February 20, 1888 to Jacob and Maria Martens. In the early years of this century he moved to Herbert and eventually took up a homestead four miles southwest of Main Centre, Sask. He was married to Marie Wall on March 16, 1913. Their union was blessed with six sons, all of whom survive their father.

In 1930 through the ministry of missionary Frank Wiens, he accepted the Lord Jesus as his personal Saviour and later that year, upon the confession of his faith and baptism, he was accepted into the Main Centre MB Church.

Mr. Martens was active in church and community affairs, served on the church council as well as in other church committee's at both Main Centre and Herbert, and also as local municipal, councillor and director of the Pioneer Coop Association of Swift Current.

He suffered a great loss thorough the death of his first wife in 1948, but in the year 1950 he was remarried to the former Sarah Cornelson, and after two further years on the farm, they moved into Herbert. They lived there until his passing.

He was forced to retire, completely from his work in 1966, after a stroke, though he regained reasonable heath. On April 23, 1972 he passed into the presence of, the Lord . He is survived by his beloved wife, Sarah; six sons, Otto of Ma:in Centre, Fred of Victoria, Sam of Calgary, Roy, a missionary to India, Rueben of Main Centre and Tony of Burnaby, B.C.; four stepchildren, Victor Cornelson of Swift Current, Clara (Mrs. Frank) Klippenstein, Main Centre, Anne (Mrs . Harry) Lansberry, Herbert, and Wilma (Mrs. John) Adrian, Saskatoon; 21 grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren.

The funeral was conducted from the Herbert MB Church on April 27 with Pastor Jake Pauls and Rev. Nick Janz ministering
