— Funeral services for Mrs. Susie E. Janzen, 76, wife of Peter F. Janzen of Walton, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Walton Mennonite church. Rev. C. D. Boese, her pastor, was in charge and was assisted by Rev. C. B. Friesen, Rev. Erwin Goering and Rev. H. B.; Schmidt. Mrs. Janzen passed away Saturday morning at the home in Walton after being in failing health the past year. In addition to her husband, she leaves two daughters, Dorothy of the home and Mrs. Leonard Hiebert of Walton; two sons, John L. of Burrton and Eldon Ralph, in the U. S. Navy; and one brother, C. K. Janzen of Newton.

MRS. P. F. JANZEN

Mrs. P. F. (Susie E.) Janzen, a daughter of John and Ann Janzen, was born March 9, 1879, near Goessel, Kans. She spent her childhood days with her parents on the farm.

She accepted Jesus as her Saviour, was baptized by Rev. Peter Balzer and became a member of the Alexanderwohl church, Goessel, in June 1897.

She was united in holy wedlock with Peter F. Janzen on Nov. 9, 1898, and was privileged to share with her husband the joys and sorrows of life for more than 56 years. In this union they were privileged to adopt four children, John Lee, Bertha, Eldon Ralph, and Dorthy [sic Dorothy] Ann.

She leaves to mourn her departure her bereaved husband; two daughters, Dorothy of the home, and Bertha, Mrs. Leonard Hiebert of Walton; two sons, John Lee of Burrton, Kans. and Eldon Ralph, serving with the U. S. Navy; one brother, C. K. Janzen of Newton, Kans., and many relatives and friends.

The Janzens lived on a farm most of their married life until six years ago when they moved to Walton, Kans. In 1945 they lived together with their daughter joined the Walton Mennonite church, where she remained a faithful member until her death.

Mother was physically strong in past years, until her eyesight failed her and an operation was necessary. Although suffering pain she was able to recover. In the last year her health failed and due her condition, she was not able to have another operation. She was tenderly cared for by her daughter and the husband in the home where she passed away at 9:00 o’clock April 30, 1955. She reached age of 76 years, one month and 21 days. She was conscious to the end. She always acknowledged the visits of friends, and kept a record of all the visits.

“For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that shall be revealed in us.” Romans 8:18.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. on May 3, 1955, in the Walton Mennonite church. Rev. C. D. Boese officiated, assisted by Rev. C. B. Friesen, Rev. Erwin Goering and Rev. H. B. Schmidt. A poem written by daughter Dorothy after her mother’s passing was read at the funeral. Music was given by the Guhr Brothers quartet and the mixed chorus of the Walton church. Burial was made in the Tabor cemetery.
