James Hershberger, 62, executive director of OrrVilla Retirement Community in Orrville, Ohio, died April 7, 1993, at Dunlap Memorial Hospital in Orrville.

He was born Aug. 22, 1930, in Alberta to Owen and Clara Brenneman Hershberger. He moved with his family to Hesston, Kan., in 1941, where he graduated rom Hesston College and worked at Hesston Corporation.

He was ordained to the ministry and served as pastor at Mountain View Mennonite Church, Mountain Home, Ark.; Spring Valley Mennonite Church, Canton, Kan.; and Beaver Dam Mennonite Church, Corry, Pa.

in 1965 he became administrator of Schowalter Villa in Hesston, where he served for 15 years. Following the pastorate in Pennsylvania, he served for eight and a half years, until his death, at OrrVilla Retirement Community as executive director.

On Dec. 30, 1951, he married Gladys Kauffman, Goshen, Ind., who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Miriam Hershberger of Philadelphia; two sons Paul (Lorie) of Harleysville, Pa., and Delvin (Michele) of Woodburn, Ore.; four grandchildren; a sister, Pearl Rodgers of Hesston; and a brother, Howard of Harper, Kan. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Kenneth James; and three brothers, Glenn, Kenneth and John.

He was a member of the Orrville Mennonite Church, where he served as elder and in the music ministry. A memorial service was held at the Orrville Church, with burial at the Clinton Brick Mennonite Church Cemetery, Goshen. The service was conducted by John and Barbara Moyer Lehman, pastors.

James Hershberger, 62, executive director of OrrVilla Retirement Community in Orrville, Ohio, died April 7, 1993, at Dunlap Memorial Hospital in Orrville.
