Mrs. Josephine Stauffer, 79, a member of the pioneer Gerig family, died Wednesday at her home in Swegle. She was born in Switzerland on March 16, 1872, and came to this country with her parents, the Pete Gerigs, at the age of ten. After living for a while in Kansas they came to Oregon about 60 years ago, settling first in Hayesville and later on a farm north of East Garden road near Pratum.

She is survived by four daughters and three sons, Mrs. Emma Hersch, Mrs. Caroline Haury, Mrs. Lydia Hofstetter, Miss Alma Stauffer, and Dean Stauffer, all of Salem. Jacob Stauffer of Chicago, and Joseph Stauffer of Albany; 17 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; five brothers, Fred, Val, Jacob and Nicholas Gerig, all of Salem. Samuel Gerig of Corvallis; three sisters, Mrs. Mary DeVries and Mrs. Anna Girod, both of Salem, and Mrs. Lena May of Veronia.

Mrs. Stauffer had been ill for a long time and on Sunday morning she had a stroke, passing away Wednesday. Funeral services were held Saturday at the W. T. Rigdon chapel, and interment at the Pratum cemetery. Rev. W. A. Regier and Rev. J. R. Turnbull officiating.

MRS. JOSEPHINE STAUFFER, Pratum, Oregon, member of the Immanuel church was born in Switzerland, March 16, 1872, and died Sept. 12, 1951. She is survived by 7 children, 17 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
