MRS. AGNES RATZLAFF

Once again we bow in humble submission to the will of Him who doeth all things well, the One who has called from our midst our dear, loving wife and mother, Agnes Ratzlaff. She was born April 12, 1894, at Durham, Kans. and departed from this life on July 22, 1951, at Newton, Kans. at the age of 57 years, three months and 10 days, when the Lord saw fit to relieve her from all the pain and intense suffering which she bore so patiently.

She was the daughter of Adam and Elizabeth Unruh, and grew up in the parental home.

On February 27, 1913, she was united in marriage with Adam Ratzlaff, with whom she shared joys and sorrows for more than 38 years. They made their home in the Tampa community until 10 years ago, when they moved to Newton.

Being reared in a Christian home, she began to feel the need of a closer walk with the Lord, which she sought and found. For a number of years she was a member of the Peace Valley Mennonite church at Tampa. In the past few years she was a member of the Free Methodist church in Newton.

Unselfishly she devoted her life to her husband, children, grandchildren and to the church in helping to build the Kingdom of the Lord. In her home she was given to hospitality. She enjoyed her friends, of which she had many. It was easy for her to make friends, to love and cherish them. This was especially manifested during her illness. While in the hospital, she was upheld by many prayers of loved ones and God’s children and by visitors. One day in her pain and suffering, she remarked to one of her daughters that she would like to stay a little while longer with the family, but Jesus, wanted her to come Home. At other times she expressed her readiness to meet her Saviour.

She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband and five children, Francis, Mrs. Alva Decker of Newton; Hilda, Mrs. John Mitchell of Wichita; Wesley of Whitewater; Clinton of Collins, Iowa; Clara, Mrs. John Wance of Newton; two daughters-in-law, Rosalind Ratzlaff and Norma Ratzlaff; three sons-in-law; Alva Decker, John Wance, both of Newton, and John Mitchell of Wichita; ten grandchildren; four sisters; three brothers, and a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the First Mennonite church of Newton at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 25, conducted by Rev. Phillip Capp. Burial was in the Greenwood cemetery. — The Family.
