HENRY ALBRECHT
Henry Albrecht, son of Henry and Helena (nee Penner) Albrecht, was born December 10, 1873, at Lindenau, Russia. In 1884 he came to America with his parents, who settled near Beatrice, Nebraska. He attended the parochial school then taught by Rev. J. K. Penner.
On June 6, 1892, after a period of catechetical instruction, he expressed his desire to be baptized upon the confession of his faith in Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He was baptized by Elder Gerhard Penner and joined the Mennonite church of which he remained a faithful member.
On September 6, 1906, he was married to Marie Wiens and moved to a farm about twelve miles northwest of Beatrice. The Lord blessed this home with the birth of two daughters. On February 1918, the Lord permitted him to experience the loss of his faithful companion. Through the helpful assistance of Miss Anna Martens he was able to provide a home for his daughters. He has always shown an active interest in Sunday school and church work.
In 1930 he moved to Beatrice. About three years ago a bodily ailment developed which later made it impossible for him to remain alone in his home. During the last days of his life he was cared for faithfully at the Mennonite Hospital where, after brief suffering, he went to be with his Lord, may 14, 12:20 p. m. He leaves two daughters, two sons-in-law, seven grandchildren, two brothers, one sister and many relatives and friends. He attained the age of 69 years, 5 months and 4 days.
Asleep in Jesus! blessed sleep
From which none ever wake to weep
A calm and undisturbed repose,
Unbroken by the last of foes.
Asleep in Jesus! peaceful rest,
Whose waking is supremely blest;
No fear, no woe, shall dim that hour
That mainfests [sic] the Savior's power.
The funeral of Henry Albrecht was held May 17. The services at the Harmon and Johnson Funeral Home were conducted by Rev. Walter H. Dyck. II Tim. 4:6-8 was the scriptural basis for his meditation. A men's quartet consisting of Edgar Weibe, John K. Wiebe, Louie Wiebe, and Theodor Goossen, accompanied by Mrs. C. P. Reimer, sang, "Jesus Savior Pilot Me," and "Shall We Meet Beyond the River."
Further services were held at the First Mennonite church, Beatrice, Nebraska. Rev. Cornelius Penner spoke on Ps. 68:20, 21. The quartet sang, 'Lass Mich Gehen." "Forever With The Lord" (I Thess. 4:13-180) were the comforting and encouraging words used by Rev. Dyck. Another song, "Rock of Ages," was sung by the quartet.
