AUTHOR OF FARM BILLS DIED AT AGE 71
Representative William Lemke, well-known farm legislator from North Dakota, died suddenly at Fargo on May 30 at the age of 71. He had planned to run for re-election this fall.
Rep. Lemke is remembered by thousands of farmers as the co-author of the Frazer-Lemke moratorium bill in the 1930's which he estimated saved 250,000 farms from foreclosure. In 1936 he ran for president on the Union party ticket.
