WELL-KNOWN BUSINESS MAN TAKEN BY DEATH

Bluffton, Ohio. — Funeral services were held at the First Mennonite church here on Thursday, Jan. 13, for Edwin Amstutz, 58, well-known lumber dealer here for many yeas who passed away Jan. 11. In addition to his lumber business, Mr. Amstutz was a director of a local bank and had farming interests.

His wife and a daughter, Harriet, and son, Robert, survive.

EDWIN AMSTUTZ

Edwin Amstutz was born near Bluffton, Ohio, January 13, 1890, and passed away at the place of his birth, January 11, 1949, at the age of 58 years 11 months and 28 days. He was the son of Peter B. and Leah Gerber Amstutz.

On September 25, 1921, he was united in marriage with Zilla Soldner, who survives with their two children, a son, Robert, and a daughter, Harriet. He is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Dinah Hofstetter of Bluffton, and Olive and Lydia Amstutz of Lima, Ohio; and one brother, Amos, of Silverton, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents, three infant sisters, and a brother.

Edwin spent his entire life in the Bluffton community. For a number of years he operated a sawmill with his father and brother on the home farm, and later in Bluffton and Pandora. In his later years he devoted his time to purchasing timber and farming.

He took an active part in civic, social, and religious interests. During the past 22 years he served as a director of the Citizens National Bank of Bluffton. He was a life-long member of the Mennonite Church and took an active part in the program of the church, especially in music and in very regular attendance in Sunday school |md worship services. Truly the words of St. Paul to the Romans are a fitting epitaph for his life: In all things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us."

"In heavenly love abiding
     No change my heart shall fear;
And safe in such confiding,
     For nothing changes here,"

The funeral services were held in the First Mennonite church on Jan. 14, 1949. Rev. J. N. Smucker and Rev. G. T. Soldner were the officiating ministers.
