&#9679; Edward Claassen, 96, retired farmer of Whitewater, died Nov. 25 at the Peabody Memorial Nursing Home where he had received care since January 1972. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the Emmaus Mennonite Church. Rev. Alvin Kleinsasser, the pastor, officiated and was assisted by Rev. Leonard Harder of the Garden Mennonite Church, Hesston. Mr. Claassen married Catharine Thiessen in 1902 and they lived on the same farm near Whitewater until 1972 when they entered the Peabody Home. Mrs. Claassen died Mar. 1, 1975. Surviving are three daughters, Catharina Schroeder of Paso Robles, Calif., Agnes Claassen of Peabody, and Marie Stucky of Route 3, Newton; 10 sons, Ed of North Newton, Henry, Orlando, Daniel and Donald, all of Whitewater, Walter of Burns, David of East Peoria, Ill., Louis of Paso Robles, Rev. Curt of Berne, Ind., and Melvin of Mt. Lake, Minn.; one sister, Justina Reimer of Beatrice, Neb.; 41 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren.
