FRED D. MEYER
Fred D. Meyer, son of Dietrick and Marie Winsinger Meyer, was born January 21, 1873, in Doerverden, Germany, where he spent his boyhood days. On Monday evening, March 8, 1948, he was called to his heavenly home, reaching the age of 75 years one month and 17 days.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. In the year 1890, at the age of seventeen, he came to America and made his home with Uncle Henry Meyer of Galva, Kansas. Later he made his home near Moundridge, Kansas, working for Daniel Schmitt and J. C. Schmitt. On March 12, 1896, he became a member of the West Zion Mennonite church, where he was a faithful and active church worker until his death.
On December 25, 1896, he was united in marriage to Hulda Rupp. They made their first home on a farm near Hesston. Three years later they moved to the farm three miles east of Moundridge. Eleven years ago they retired and moved to Moundridge. December 25, 1946, they had the privilege of celebrating their golden wedding anniversary.
Those who mourn his departure are his wife; one son, Alfred of Moundridge: five daughters, Esther, Mrs. R. R. Huxman, Elma, Mrs. D. J. Huxman, Elizabeth, Mrs. L.L. Loganbill, Bertha, Mrs. Dale S. Galle, and Marie, Mrs. Silas W. Wedel, all of Moundridge; twelve grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. One sister-in-law, one niece, and one nephew live in Germany. One son, his parents, and three brothers, preceded him in death.
