ALBERT UNRUH
Funeral services for Albert Unruh were conducted from the Grace Mennonite church, Halstead, Kansas on Sunday, afternoon, October 5, 1947, at 2:00 o'clock with Rev. Carl Dirks in charge. He was assisted by Rev. Paul Becker. A short prayer service in the home preceded the church service. The church was filled to capacity and and the presence of the many friends paying tribute to the memory of Mr. Unruh showed the high esteem in which the family is held. The church choir sang some of the favorite church hymns. Bearers were J. C. Unruh, A. C. Unruh, Eli Koehn, Pete Koehn, Irvin Becker and Ike Friesen. Interment was in the family lot in the Halstead cemetery.
Albert Unruh, son of Ben and Eva Unruh, was born at Goltry Oklahoma on January 8, 1901, and passed away at the Bethel Hospital in Newton at 8:05 Thursday morning, October 2. He reached the age of 16 [sic 46] years, eight months and 24 days.
He lived with his parents in Oklahoma until he was about 16 years old, when they moved to Kansas, living at Montezuma for a few years. Then they moved to a farm near Halstead. On November 18, 1926, he was united in marriage with Alice Unruh. They made their home on a farm near Ulysses, Kansas. About six years ago his health began to fail and they sold out and left the farm, living at different places. Then they purchased a small farm adjoining Halstead.
Albert felt the need of a Savior, repented and found peace with God through our Lord, Jesus Christ, and upon the confession of his faith was baptized and added to the Church of God in Christ (Mennonite), on March 9, 1947. He remained a faithful member to the end, many times expressing his joy and satisfaction in serving the Lord.
About two months ago his health began to fail rapidly, and he grew weaker and weaker. He was taken to Bethel hospital, yet all that was done to save him was of no avail. He patiently suffered to the end; committing his loved ones in the hands of a loving God, he peacefully fell asleep.
He leaves to mourn his early departure his beloved companion, Alice Unruh; two daughters, Maxine and Norman, and one son, Gary, all of the home; three brothers, Ed and Otis of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and Ben of Halstead; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Krebs of Spokane, Wash., Mrs. Dave Kahn of Halstead, Mrs. Ben J. Buller of Halstead, Mrs. Martin Koehn of Moundridge, Kansas; also a host of relatives and friends. His father and mother preceded him in death.
In his passing we keenly feel the loss of a loving husband and father, a faithful brother and a kind neighbor. We sorrow not as those who have no hope, for he left the full assurance of entering into rest.
