Ernest J. Ely, son of Joseph and Emma Ely, was born in McPherson county, Kansas, Sept. 2, 1882, and passed away at his home there, Nov. 29, 1946, at the age of 64 years, two months and 27 days. | |||
He was united in marriage to Lucy Cooprider Nov. 26, 1903. To this union were born two sons and three daughters. | |||
He leaves to mourn his passing his bereaved wife and youngest daughter, Carol, of the home; Harold and wife Mary of Conway, Oren and wife Frances of Inman, Lois and husband John Johnston of Leonard, Mo., Evelyn and husband Ivan Brunk of Windom; ten grandchildren; three brothers and one sister, Reginald of Dodge City, Burton of Conway, Eva Collins of Fort Dodge, George of Inman (Mina deceased); and many other relatives and friends. | |||
In early life he united with the West Liberty Mennonite church and remained a faithful member until his death. He was a devoted and faithful husband and a kind and loving father, beloved by all his family. | |||
During the convalescent period following a successful operation, his death came unexpectedly as a result of coronary thrombosis. | |||
He was fully resigned to the Lord’s will. While in the hospital he expressed a great desire to remain with his family but he said, “If not, I am ready to go.” | |||
Funeral services were conducted at the home by Rev. J. G. Hartzler and at the West Liberty church by Rev. C. J. Garber of Alpha, Minn., assisted by Rev. J. G. Hartzler and Rev. M. M. Troyer. Texts used were Ecc. 8:8, Heb.. 9:8, and Rev. 14 13 | |||
