S. B. Martin, son of Jonathan and Elizabeth Horst Martin, was born near Dalton, Wayne county, Ohio, June 17, 1855, and died in the Beeson's hospital, Wooster, following an operation for hernia on Dec. 10, 1949. | |||
He was united in marriage to Anna Hoover of Lancaster county, Pa. in January 1877. She died Dec. 19, 1937. | |||
He is survived by four daughters and three sons, Amos H. of Gordonville, Pa., Daniel J. of Dayton, Va., Mrs. Ezra Good of Dalton, Elam H. of Orville, Mrs. Esther Weaver of County Line road, Mrs. Emma Martin of near Orville, and Mrs. Minnie Horst of County Line road; 21 grandchildren, and 44 great grandchildren. He was preceded by his wife, a daughter Mary, who died in infancy, six grandchildren, four brothers and three sisters. He was aged 94 years, five months and 23 days. | |||
He was baptized at the age of 17 years into the Mennonite church and continued in the same faith for 77 years. He was the oldest member of the County Line church and attended the last time about a month ago. | |||
He suffered greatly the last month and was taken to the Wooster hospital where all was done that medical care could do. | |||
