LEAGUE OF NATIONS OPPONENT DIES IN WASHINGTON

IN WASHINGTON, ON August 6, died Hirman [sic Hiram] W. Johnson of California, a senior member of the United States Senate. Senator Johnson, an outspoken opponent of the League of Nations, was one of the key figures in keeping the United States out of the League during the days of Woodrow Wilson.

He later also waged a successful campaign in opposing the country's adherence to the World Court.

The 79 year old California was fist elected to Congress in 1916.
