Sarah Koop Andres, daughter of Thomas and Sarah Koop, was born January 1, 1873, in the village of Bayaniska, South Russia.

In 1884, during the emigation of the Russian Mennonites to America, she came with her parents, two sisters and two brothers to settle in Kansas, arriving in Newton on November 10.
