Early Monday morning, at the Bethel Home for Aged, the earthly life of Gerhard P. Ewert covering a span of more than a century, came to an end. Born in Russia on July 19, 1840, Mr. Ewert would have been 101 years old next July. | |||
Coming to America in 1875, he settled in Harvey county, making his home east of Newton where he farmed until incapacitad [''sic''] by old age. He was a resident of the Bethel Home for Aged since May of last year. Although speechless during the last few days, attendants could observe that he was content with his circumstances and departed from life with a happy expression on his face. | |||
Funeral services are being held this afternoon at the Grace Hill church, conducted by Rev. G. N. Harms and Rev. J. J. Voth of Bethel college. One son, John G. Ewert of Newton, survives. | |||

BETHEL HOME'S ONLY CENTENARIAN WAS BORN IN RUSSIA ON JULY 19, 1840
Early Monday morning, at the Bethel Home for Aged, the earthly life of Gerhard P. Ewert covering a span of more than a century, came to an end. Born in Russia on July 19, 1840, Mr. Ewert would have been 101 years old next July.
