State and local law enforcement officials arrested Oliver K. Smith Jr. Sept 16, ending the investigation into the Oct. 27, 1986 death of Shelly Prine, 22, a former Newton resident. When her husband, Robert, returned from a duck hunting trip at about 6:30 p.m., Oct 26, he found his wife suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. She was taken by Newton ambulance to St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita, where she died during the early morning hours. The Prines had moved to the Goessel area from Newton in August 1986. | |||
