Rural Middlebury Youth Drowns in Gravel Pit

Middlebury, Ind. — Seventeen-year-old Thomas Yoder drowned while attempting to swim across a gravel pit pond near here recently. He had been swimming with a friend, who ran to a nearby residence to notify authorities. He was living with an uncle, Joe Bontrager, and helping with farm chores. Other survivors include seven sisters, three brothers and a grandmother. His parents preceded him in death.
