Stroke of Lightning Takes Life of South Dakota Farmer on August 13.

The Spink community correspondent of the Freeman Courier, Freeman, S. D., reports the following tragic incident which happened there on the afternoon of August 13:

John P. Hofer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul T. Hofer, was killed by lightning on Thursday, August 13, in the forenoon. He was working at the Josua J. Hofer place. Lightning struck as he was sitting on a mower and he and the team were killed.

Funeral took place Sunday afternoon at the Hofer church. Rev. Joseph J. Hofer and Rev. Paul J. Tschetter being the speakers. There was a very large attendance at the funeral. John was well liked by young and old. He lived a model life and was aable to resist the worldly pressure that spoils so many young people.

John was born Nov. 22, 1908.
