Nelson W. Histand, 78, of Hesston, a Mennonite minister and farmer, died March 20 at NMC-Bethel, Newton. Funeral services were held March 23 at Whitestone Mennonite Church, Hesston, with Rong Guengerich officiating. Burial was in Eastlawn Cemetery north of Zimmerdale. He had served churches in Culp, Ark.; Pryor, Okla.; Goshen, Ind.; Macon, Miss.; and Carlsbad, N.M. He had moved to Hesston in 1982. Survivors include his wife, the former Eunice Mae Gingrich; four sons, John and Timothy, both of Portland, Ore., Stanley of Wichita and James of Souderton, Pa.; four daughters, Marian Schwabbauer and Delores Friesen, both of Iowa City, Iowa; Carol Lehman of Goshen, Ind.; and Catharine Lichti of St. Louis; three sisters, Clara Sell of Salunga, Pa., Maggie Histand of Lansdale, Pa., and Esther Helmuth of St. Petersburg, Fla.; 26 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. One grandchild preceded him in death.
