Mrs. Marie Franz, 61, of Goessel died Aug. 14 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Marion. Services were held Aug. 18 at the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church near Goessel. Born Dec. 7, 1920 to Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Richert, she married Albert Franz on June 21, 1947. In addition to her husband, a brother, Jake Richert of Hillsboro, survives.

MARIE RUTH FRANZ
Marie Ruth Franz was born on Dec. 7, 1920 at Hillsboro, Kan. She was the daughter of Henry J. and Elizabeth (Warkentin) Richert.
She was baptized upon confession of her faith on June 5, 1938 by B. H. Janzen and became a member of the Lehigh Mennonite Church. In 1956 she transferred her membership to the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church near Goessel, of which she remained a member until her death.
On June 21, 1947 she was married to Albert Franz by B. H. Janzen at Halstead. They shared life’s joys and sorrows for over 35 years. On Sept. 2, 1969 Beverly Schmidt came to live with them and on July 23, 1980 she unexpectedly passed away at the age of 31.
On May 25, 1980 Marie had a massive stroke which left her almost completely paralyzed. She was taken to the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita and after a month was transferred to the Bethesda Hospital in Goessel so that she would be closer to home. She was a resident of Salem home in Hillsboro for over a year.
On June 8, 1982 she was taken to the skilled wing at St. Luke’s Hospital in Marion where she passed away on Aug. 14. She reached the age of 61.
Survivors include her husband, Albert; one brother, Jake Richert and family of Hillsboro; one uncle, Abe Schmidt and wife Linda of Lynden, Wash.; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Aug. 18 at the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church with David C. Wedel and Orlando Waltner officiating. Interment was in the Alexanderwohl Cemetery.
