Little Boy Drowns In Pond at New Missouri Settlement

Ephrata, Pa.—Word was received here of an accidental drowning in the new Old Order (Wisler) Mennonite settlement at Barnett, Mo.

Marlin N. Shirk, five-year-old son of Reuben W. and Lydia (Nolt) Shirk, reportedly drowned June 10 when he slipped off an inner tube while playing in a pond at the farm of his grandfather, Elias Shirk. Funeral services were held June 13 in the New Hopewell Mennonite Church near Barnett.

The boy was born at Ephrata, the family being among those who moved to Missouri because of the scarcity of farmland in this area.
