PETER HENRY UNGER
Peter Henry Unger of Chilliwack, B.C. passed away on November 12. He was born to Heinrich and Helena (Mandtler) Unger on January 28,1898 in Ufa, Russia. He grew up in the Terek and Barnaul Mennonite settlements. During World War I and the Revolution he served as non-combatant medical officer near Moscow. On May 30, 1920 he married Katherine Boldt in Gladjen, Siberia. They emigrated to Canada in late 1925, residing briefly in Winkler, Plum Coulee (Man.) and Reesor (Ont.) before settling near Holmfield, Man. He accepted the Lord as Saviour in 1928, was baptized, and joined the Holmfield Mennonite Brethren Church. Until his retirement in 1964 he served as deacon and church treasurer in the Holmfield, Steinbach (Man.), East Chilliwack and Broadway (Chilliwack) Mennonite Brethnm churches. He is survived by his wife Katherine; three sons, two daughters and their spouses: Henry and Betty of Sardis, B.C., Pete and Audrey of Seattle, Abe and Anne of Richmond, B.C., Catherine and Ben Voth of Chilliwack, and Anne and Ervin Dahl of Hope, B.C.; 28 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The funeral was held November 15 in the Broadway Mennonite Brethren Church, with pastors David Neumann and Herman Lenzmann officiating.
