JACOB J. KLASSEN

Jacob J. Klassen of Port Rowan, Ont. passed away suddenly on June 1. He was born to Jacob and Maria Klassen in southern Russia on July 27, 1894. At age 15 he moved with his parents to Siberia where he met Helena Unger, whom he married in 1921. In 1925 they emigrated to Canada and after living in Winkler, Man., northern Ontario, Holmfield, Man. and Leamington, Ont., they settled in Port Rowan in 1938. Mr. Klassen was a deacon in the Port Rowan Mennonite Brethren Church and taught the adult Sunday school for many years. He is survived by seven sons: Jacob and wife Anne, Henry and wife Helen, Peter and wife Sadie, John and wife Alita and Tom and wife Lydia, all of Port Rowan, Nick and wife Annie of Kitchener, and Walter of Courtland, all of Ontario; four daughters: Helen and husband Corny Friesen, Mary and husband Abe Petkau, Martha and husband Dick Morgan, all of Port Rowan, Anne and husband Abe Toews of Aylmer, Ont.; 43 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two sisters , Anna Warkentin of Germany and Maria Wiens of Paraguay. He was predeceased by wife Helena and by three sons. The funeral was held June 4 in Port Rowan MB Church with Corny Braun officiating.
