HUGO W. JANTZ
Hugo Jantz died Aug. 12, 2006 after a lengthy illness. Born to Henry and Lena Jantz Mar. 5, 1930, in Laird, 5ask., he committed his life to Christ in 1944 and was baptized in the Laird MB Church. Hugo studied at Prairie Bible Institute, Three Hills, Alta., and Mennonite Brethren Bible College, Winnipeg, and then embarked on a lifetime of public ministry, much of it within the Mennonite Brethren church. Together with Katherine (Goerzen), whom he married in 1954, he served in Quito, Ecuador, among refugees in Germany, and as director of MCC's European programs. He pastored churches in Yarrow, Clearbrook, and Winnipeg, and served with Columbia Bible College, MBBC, and MBMS International. Hugo's ministry was characterized by strong personal relationships and engaging preaching; his manner was unpretentious and accepting. He never lost his conviction that following Jesus meant embracing a life of unconditional love and peacemaking. Predeceased by 2 brothers; he is mourned by Katherine; daughters Janet (Tim Kroeker), Eliana (Bob Davidson), Carol (James Waytowich), Angelika (Walter Nikkel), Marianne (Floyd Olson), Sonya (Matthew Lawrence); son Robert (Cindy Mann); 16 grandchildren; 4 siblings. The funeral was held at Sargent Mennonite Church, Winnipeg.
