South Dakota Mother And Four Children Killed in Accident
Freeman, S. D., — Friends and relatives from a wide area attended funeral services at the Humphrey Auditorium in Doland on June 9 for Mrs. Don (Patricia) Mendel and four children, all of whom died in a car-truck collision near Dawson, Minn. on June 6.
At the time of the accident Mrs. Mendel and children Karleen and Carissa, twins 9 years old, Marce, 7, and Stacie, 6, were en route to Camp Ripley, Minn. to visit their husband and father, Donald, who had gone there for summer field training.
Mrs. Mendel, a member of the Ebenezer Mennonite Church, was active in church work, was serving a six-year term on the State Board of Regents, and was a past president of the Doland Study Club. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur P. Tschetter, she was a graduate of Huron College.
Burial was made in the cemetery of the Ebenezer church near Doland.
